Help › Social accounts and posting
Last updated: October 11, 2026
Quick answer
Open Connect socials in the sidebar and use the connect button at the top of each platform's page. You are sent to that platform to log in and grant permission, then back to Trolto. One Facebook connection covers Instagram too.
Two things trip people up, and both come from the platforms rather than from Trolto: Facebook only allows posting to a Business Page, never a personal timeline, and Instagram must be a professional account linked to that page.
Facebook's policies stop any third-party app from posting to a personal timeline, so you need a Facebook Business Page. If you already have one, skip to the connection steps.
Create a Business Page
Log in to Facebook with the account that will administer the page.
Open Pages in the left sidebar and click Create new page.
Fill in the page name, category, and the rest of the details.
Add a profile picture and cover photo.
Connect it to Trolto
In Trolto, open Connect socials and click Connect to Facebook and Instagram at the top of the Facebook page.
Log in to Facebook if you are not already.
When Facebook asks which pages to allow, choose Opt in to all current and future pages. This matters: without it, a page you add later cannot be posted to.
Grant the permissions it asks for, and you are returned to Trolto.
Instagram posting runs through Facebook, so the two are connected in one go. Before that works, Instagram needs two things set up on its side.
1. Make it a professional account
In Instagram, go to Settings › Account and choose Switch to professional account. A personal account cannot be posted to by any app.
2. Link it to your Facebook Page
Open the Facebook Page connected to your business.
Click Settings at the top of the page.
Click Instagram in the left sidebar.
Follow the prompts to log in to Instagram and link the accounts.
Then click Connect to Facebook and Instagram in Trolto and choose Opt in to all current and future Instagram accounts.
Click Connect to LinkedIn at the top of the LinkedIn page in Connect socials. You are sent to LinkedIn to log in, if you are not already, and to authorise Trolto. Grant the permissions it asks for and you are returned to Trolto.
Click Connect to Twitter at the top of the X page in Connect socials. You are sent to X to log in, if you are not already, and asked to authorise Trolto. Grant the permissions it asks for.
Social platforms expire the permission they give an app, usually every couple of months. Trolto refreshes your connections automatically in the background, so in normal use you never think about it.
• If a connection is close to expiring and cannot be refreshed on its own, you are warned in the app before anything stops.
• Changing your password on a platform, or removing Trolto's access there, ends the connection immediately. Reconnect with the same button you used the first time.
• A post that cannot go out because a connection has dropped is not silently thrown away. It waits, and the app tells you which account needs attention.
Can I post to my personal Facebook profile?
No. Facebook does not allow third-party apps to post to a personal timeline. You need a Business Page, which is free to create and takes a couple of minutes.
My Instagram account does not show up
What can cause this
• The Instagram account is still a personal account rather than a professional one.
• It is not linked to the Facebook Page you connected.
• You did not opt in to all current and future Instagram accounts during the connection.
What to do
• Work through the two Instagram steps above, then connect again from Trolto.
Do I have to connect all four?
No. Connect the ones you actually use. Posts are only scheduled for the accounts that are connected.
Will anything post without me seeing it?
No. Content is written and placed on your calendar, but nothing is published until you approve it. See posting and scheduling.
Email support@trolto.com and include:
• The email address on your Trolto account
• What you were trying to do and what happened instead
• For billing questions, the date and amount of the charge, or a screenshot
If you are logged in, you can also use the chat bubble in the bottom corner of the app.
